Children. Families. Neighbors.
The Southeast Keizer Community Center (SEKCC) is an umbrella for several community-based programs located at Salem Mennonite Church in southeast Keizer, Oregon. The SEKCC began in May 2000 as a collaborative effort between several local agencies wanting to provide a safe place for children and families to congregate on Friday evenings. The SEKCC's "Friday Family Night" has been a fixture in the neighborhood ever since, providing positive activities for kids and an opportunity for adults in get involved in their community. In subsequent years the SEKCC started "Homework Club" (a one-on-one tutoring program for students at Weddle Elementary), organized an ESL program for adults, and planted a community garden. In all things we strive to be a hospitable space that our neighbors can take ownership of as they work together for the good of their families and their community. We hope to nurture children for positive social development, strengthen families, and help neighbors be neighbors. The SEKCC is run by a paid half-time coordinator and relies on volunteer support from Salem Mennonite Church and other community partners. We are grateful for funding from the Marion County Children and Families Commission, Keizer United, West Coast Bank, Salem Mennonite Church, Trust Management Foundation, and other sources.
